Its worth a try, I already have legal photoshop but I still use gimp and it may be refreshing to see it with a better interface.

I have Photoshop 7.0 and I know a lot of my cyber friends have gimp, but all most all of them have compared them with PS and say it's not as good. I also have paint shop pro, which is pretty cool as well. I've never actually tried gimp, so I think I might take a look at it, to give my own opinion.

I have tried GIMP...and it's just not the same as photoshop(CS3)... I guess it's just cause I'm so used to photoshop that GIMP seems totally inferior...well that and the price difference XD

The only reason people pirate software is because the companies place ridiculous prices on them. For example... Adobe Photoshop CS3 costs just under £400, who has 400 quid to spend on graphics editing? Professionals who can get that back in 1 job maybe, but not normal people. BitTorrent is my friend. :)
Student edition. It's a full version and the extended version is only about £120 then. The only restriction is legally you can't make money from work done on that version.
Yeah, but £120 is still a hell of a lot for a student who has to pay rent, living expenses, education expenses and tuition fees. Add that you can't make money from the work and you're paying £120 for something to make work for deviantart and not much else. You couldn't even sell the prints on DA under the rule. :(

So true. If your an artist, you buy your paints/canvas/paper/oils/brushed etc, because they're your tools. For a graphic artist, photoshop is a key edition to your digital capability's, and 169 euro / $299 is a solid, and relatively cheap investment if your serious about graphics. It's still such a shame that Adobe is quite harsh on students compared to other companies. I remember when you could get the Macromedia suite as a student for around £100. Don't be small minded... If your studying photography them you need to buy an SLR camera, if your studying art, you need supplies, if your studying many other subjects you need £100's in books.... as such, photoshop for £120 is an acceptable expense for a graphics student! If your talented then you only need a £10 set of french curves, and a cheapo set of pencils/ink with some paper for your rest. Post edited at 6:23 am on Aug. 25, 2007 by Hexer
