I'm in a Sorority on my campus, and at one point or another, everyone in greek life was on the outside.  However, now that I'm in a greek organization I understand it a lot differently than I did before.

However, a lot of people on my campus have a negative/biased/stereotypical view of greek life, without really having any idea what it's really about.

I'm sure there are people in general on every campus that has this view, but do all campuses as a whole have a really negative view like this of greeks?

And that was one of the bigger reasons why I chose my school over others. Having had friends and exboyfriends be normal people, join a frat/sorority, and then walk out completely changed in a negative way, I definitely do not want to be around one or anybody affiliated with one.

So much for paid friends, huh?

I go to a school where Greek Life is the social nucleus of the campus. People hang out on the fraternity row on the weekends, Greeks put on all the festivals and philanthropy events. Also, Greek average GPA is higher than campus average and Greeks are usually much more involved and well known on campus. People have stereotypes but overall it matters little whether you are Greek or you aren't, what matters much more is what kind of person you are.

The stereotypes that many people have about Greek life are mostly false.  We party a lot, but don't most college students anyways?  We don't buy friends, the semester/yearly dues come back to us to help fund events such as philanthropy, social, and other events beneficial to the Greek org.  Nothing comes for free, it is earned or paid for out of our own pockets.  Most Greek members are involved in other student orgs on campus.  It's true Greek orgs don't take just anyone, but that's up to the kind of person you are to them.  If you're a snotty bitch/asshole, why should ANY student org let you into their organization?

Greek orgs are great places to network especially when you know no one on campus when you first arrive.  Also, they're a great way to get to know the campus, town, and more people.

I will admit that a few fraternities and sororities fit the stereotypes, but don't judge the whole Greek life based on them.  Movies don't do justice either.

mostly ppl sterotype the sororities, but also ppl kinda look at u differently kind of in a cool way when we wear our letters. ppl kinda wonder about u and stuff if u go to a store wearing letters. i am honestly glad i joined the sorority because i know i have friends now to call and hang out with and lean on.
i live off campus so it was harder as a freshmen living around seniors who already had their friends and stuff in their circle, for me to meet people over ppl living in a dorm. i would highly recommend going greek and to wear ur letters proudly
