I'm currently a psychology major, but I don't see much room for opportunity. I talked to this woman at work that cleans the grease out of the smokestacks (at McDonalds) and she said she had a degree in psychology, yet she's emptying grease for a living! Also, I talked to a customer who said his sister had a psychology degree, and shes babysitting kids for a living. I don't want to go to school for years for nothing. Anyone else a psychology major? What are you planning to do with it?

Yes, I know a lady who has a psychology degree and works at the IRS. To be an actual doctor of psychology you need your doctorate otherwise I don't think you can do much with it, but there's always something I guess for a bachelor's in psychology, like maybe being a Liscenses clinical social worker. Look into possible careers.

Psychology should be a minor degree, you should pick something for a back up.

Why doesn't psychology PAYoff? I heard that too actually. I friend of mine wants to be one she's reconsidering it because of the money issue alone. How sad.

My Intro to Psych prof said that people with psychology degrees often work an counselors or in research. Counselors can work privately or in schools or hospitals and... I don't remember exactly what else she said.

I am a psychology major and you really can't do anything with a bachelor's degree in psychology. So unless you're planning on staying in school for a really long time and getting a PH.D then you should seriously think about changing your major.

Those people grew impatient and needed to make ends meet. The grease lady, grew too comfortable in her position. You have to have motivation and market yourself. Everyone that goes to college isn't going to "make it" in life. Life is what you make it. Stick with it, and who knows what may happen.

There are lots of things you can do with a psych degree - like someone else said, it's not all about counseling... Try the APA website, or a google search for carreers with a psych b.a. I personally have a double major in psych and political science - so the double major thing is always an option... But - with the way things are going these days, you can pretty much do anything with any degree, as long as you have one - because whatever job you get will want to train you in job-specific stuff anyway... So, don't worry so much - pick a double major (or some minors) and stick with the psych... If you need some reassurance, check in with your Advisor at school (if you have one) or visit the career center... :-)
