well, I'm heading into college next year and I've decided on my college, and here's how I did it: consider at least 2 or 3 options for your major... mine were Mathematics, Physics, and Meteorology... then look for colleges that are nice in your field of study... for me, I found University of Tenn. - Knoxville, Univ. of NC - Chapel Hill, Mississippi State, Univ. Missouri - Columbia, and Austin Peay State Univ.
from there, narrow it down based on cost, size, and location... I wanted a large school that wasn't in my town that basically IS its own town, but doesn't party too hard... thus, I eliminated UT-K and APSU... then, after visiting Mizzou (Missouri-Columbia), I realized that it was nearly $30000/year and I'm not eligible for scholarships (despite a 3.6 GPA and 31 ACT)... then I found out that MSU had a top-notch meteorology program and I wanted to go into math/meteorology more than math/physics (which were my options at UNC), so I chose MSU... it worked out,, too, because I have nice scholarships there and it's only 3 hours away from home....
good luck!
