A condom is to be put on after the penis is erect and before the penis touches the vagina, anus, or mouth. It is important to be gentle with condoms and to keep them out of the sun (even when they are in their packaging). The majority of condoms are latex: never put lotions, baby oil, cold cream, vaseline on latex condoms as they weaken the condom. Instead, use a water-based lubricant like K-Y jelly or glycerin.

Step 1
Check the expiration date printed on the condom's wrapper. If it is expired or the packaging has been punctured or opened, don't use it.

Step 2
Open the condom's packaging and gently remove the condom careful not to apply too much force to the condom. Avoid contact between your fingernails and the condom as it could increase the risk of the condom breaking during sex.

Step 3
Hold the condom by the tip to remove the air, leaving some space at the tip to contain the ejaculate (also known as cum). Unroll the condom all the way down over the penis.

Instructional Video

Following sex, the male should hold the condom at the rim and pull out slowly while the penis is still hard. Always use a fresh new condom if you decide to have sex again following the initial coitus.
