The reasons that diversity is a good thing from a young age is because the more exposed children are to it, the less likely they will turn out racist later.

Those children who grow up in communities of all one ethnicity will see other ethnicities as "different" and probably end up discriminating.

Those who grow up in very mixed areas will be like "Why the hell does racism exist?" becuase they have always seen everyone as equal.

I am not all for forced diversity.  I don't believe in affirmitive action and do not have a bleeding-heart liberal stance on diversity issues.  But, when diversity occurs naturally it is a beautiful thing becuase it is one step closer to an elimination of race barriers.

It all depends on what sort of environment they are living in, WHite children for instance have to try to fit in with the Blacks, with Whites they dont need to try..

Have you ever heard the saying your environment makes you what you are, well sometimes living in diversity breeds hatred an racism....

There is no elimination to race barriers, one look at the world an we know nothing is going to end it. Even if people speak the same language etc etc race is always there ready to pounce...

that seems true.

myself for example. I used to live in south dakota where there were virtually only whites (and asians to a degree). I never remember any race-bashing or problems. Just a happy crime free un-judgemental place. Now that I live in VA, I have much different perceptions, whether rigth or wrong, that have come from the environment. I hate to say it, but here crime and other negatives are associated with african-americans, being with the other side of town- majority black I dred to go, and the high crime rate (apparently the 5th worst city in the country) along with personal experience. That doesn't make me a hatefull or racist person, but I would rather live in a not so diverse place, because ultimatly mono-racial/cultural places lead to a greater, mainly because of assimilation, place
