I got my bike last year, it was used. It is a Trek 4300 (not that it matters) and it is in rough shape (and it was when I bought it)... anyway it squeaks a lot when I get on it and I think the tires need to be replaced... They both hold air but the front on I think is losing a little bit of air (I filled it up last week) and the back bounces up and down when I ride it, a friend pointed that out to me. How do I know if the tires and tubes need to be replaced? Thanks

Well you can check the tires visually. Just look over them for any burns or large patches of wear on the sidewall, and look at the tread. If there isn't much left, it's time to change them, obviously. The tubes aren't much harder. Haul them out of the tire and pump it way up, and listen carefully for any hisses of leaking air, while repeating the visual aspect of the tire check. Worst case scenario is that both tires and tubes need to be replaced and that'll run you about.... I dunno. $30ish.

Oh wait I forgot one thing. If the tubes are leaking, they don't have to be replaced. Instead of replacing them for about $5-10 apiece, you can pick up a patch kit for about $6. If there's only a few holes in them, this is your best bet.
