At every job I've ever had, I've made friends with the employees. It takes time, and getting used to people, and getting to know them. Heck, 3 of my closest friends I met while working at McDonalds. All my other friends I've met while working where I'm at now, which is a cafeteria. Just give it time, and put the effort in to get to know them.

I meant when you're a client/customer and wanna make friends with a worker...
Even still. I work in a college cafeteria, around people my own age. It wasn't that hard for me to make friends with the customers, or get a few of the guys' phone numbers But seeing as you work at either a pool or lake, idk. I dont go there often enough to know how the age range is different. Idk. Just try to make casual conversation during breaks or downtime.
