Can anyone please help me with a project I'm doing for my Medieval history class? I have to write a report on the theory and practice of chivalry, and in it I have to include the history of it, and examples of chivalry in art and literature.

Does anyone know any movies, books, paintings or sculptures that depict knights, ladies, chivalry....etc?

Don't say A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger.

Points if you're really helpful.

I'm not really sure if that's what you're looking for or not.

I keep trying to get movies, but the only ones I can think of are parodies, and I'm pretty sure that's not what you want/need.

It was written in 1819 and set in 12th century England. There have been endless refrences to it in all sorts of TV shows and movies over the years, and there have been several adaptations of it... the best was a movie in 1952, but the most recent was a TV mini-series released in 1997.
Do some research, i'm sure you can find more...

I stole these answers from another forum haha.

We have EXCALIBUR (1981, IMDB rating 7.4) which pictures the tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

And 2 versions of famous Monty Python & the Quest for the Holy Grail (1996, IMDB rating 8.7) and its original 1975 version (IMDB rating 8.5) should be mentioned.

Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven is a recent movie (2005) so I believe most people will remember.

Timeline which was also a novel of famous Michael Crichton, is also one of my favorites. It tells a time travel story in which a group of archaeological students travel to 14th century France and find themselves in the mediaval times with their only hope of survive is their knowledge about middle age times. Was an excellent story altough movie was not that successful.

From old movies, I recall THE BLACK KNIGHT (1954), KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE (1954), PRINCE VALIANT (1954), CAMALOT (1967).

Another film is "The Mists of Avalon" which is based on the 1979 novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley, in which she relates the Arthurian legends from the perspective of the female characters. (from Wikipedia) It tells the story of the women behind King Arthur; including his mother, Igraine; his half-sister, Morgaine; his aunt Viviane, the Lady of the Lake; and his wife, Gwenwyfar.
