I know of many but the most relevant to someone like myself would be the gas mask of 1914 which was proven to work when used to rescue trapped miners in a mine with poisonous gas and was the progenitor of the modern gas mask used by the military.

Yeah, it does seem like he's trying a little too hard. But even before he really did anything, people were getting pissed at'em. Maybe since he said negro everybody got made.

I heard he has a bad rep, so people mighta just jumped to conclusions. I agree, he does sound a little like an ass with all this.

There's really no point in most cases.  Why would you mention them when talking about other things?  You'll certainly see Abs in my topic about the Aksumite Empire before it was corrupted.

You must remember that Ethiopia and Mali, and plus a few other random kingdoms here and there, constituted only a very small part of Africa (and an even smaller part of the origins of blacks in the US today as those from these more developed areas were not enslaved, but rather, enslaved in the undeveloped areas by those of the developed areas to be sold to Europeans and Arabs), and overall even those states were less developed than the ones in Eurasia.  Although the Aksumite Empire was considered one of the most powerful empires in the known world during its prime for its sheer wealth, prosperity, power, etc., states like Aksum were always on the periphery of the known and developed world - the interior of Africa, for the most part, has always seemed like a dark void.  I try to mention empires like Aksum to help others bear in mind that not all of Africa was lacking civilization, but when discussing Africa overall and things like the slave trade, the point is rather moot.

I'd say making improvements like making elevators with doors (as opposed to ones without) and calling those "inventions" is exagguration at its best. Improvement =/= invention, although you can certainly give some credit to those who make improvements to what's already invented. Calling them the same thing, however, is misleading.

The first Egyptians were white, but as the Egyptian empire started to grow in size, they came into contact with the negro nubians.

Next, the story that the US Army equipped its troops with Garrett Morgan's mask during World War I is not true. Finding no civilian mask suitable for the rigors of chemical warfare, the Army initially had to borrow gas masks from its British and French allies who, having been in the war longer, had developed superior chemical defense technology. When the US did start producing its own military masks, they were merely copies of the British Small Box Respirator (see a brief history of the WWI US Army mask). Although there are indications that Morgan tried to interest the Allied forces in his equipment, none of the masks officially adopted during the war show the distinctive features (such as the split breathing tube) of the Morgan device.
