Ok, I'm a rising sophomore. I was supposed to room with my roommate from last year, but he decided to transfer schools out of the blue, so now I'm getting a new roommate. I just found out who he is, and I checked out his facebook, and I can tell you right now that we will NOT get along. He's gay, rich, latino, super serious and studious, and from Miami. I am straight, white, laid back, and from California. Now, before you all call me homophobic/racist, I have a few gay friends and lots of latino friends. The latino factor is no big deal, but the gay aspect is. I have NO problem with gay people, but I'll admit I'd rather not room with a gay person. Hate me for it, w/e but it just is NOT something I'd like to do. I think I have a right not to have to ROOM with a gay guy. In addition, we have complete opposite tastes in music, and interests. So I'm going to call my housing office and tell them I'd like to switch roommates. My dad told me if push comes to shove to tell them that I simply cannot room with a gay roommate because of my religion (I go to a Catholic college). This would be a COMPLETE lie as I am in total favor of gay rights, etc, but if it gets me out of rooming with this kid then I'd do it. I was SUPPOSED to get a questionnaire to fill out, but never did. I feel like they just stuck me with this kid cuz they had no one else to put him with. I need some advice on what I should tell housing. And don't even try and talk me out of it because my decision is made. Thanks.

I think if you don't want to room with him because you're afraid of him hitting on you. You should calm down not all gay guys hit on all guys. And since you are opposites he probably wont want to hit on you!

i understand when i go to college i do not want a staight roommate because bad expenese because lot staight guy can really mean to you if you are gay

What you're comfortable with is your thing but I don't think you can pressure the school to do what you want with that reason. Bringing sexuality and religion into the picture may not work because most schools are not allowed to be in any way bias against sexuality or religion. You need to find the other reasons why it would be necessary to change your living arrangements.
