so im doing a speech on abortion and i am pro choice
however i am just wondering, if Australia was to make abortion legal up to 24 weeks, i want to know why it should be up to 24 weeks, why do women need 24 weeks to decide if they want an abortion or not

shouldn't 10 weeks be more suitable and understandable?

im not saying it's right or wrong, just wondering what peoples opinions are on why it should be up to 24 weeks

i knew someone who didn't know she was pregnant until she was like 5 months pregnant...
either way, i don't think other people should be allowed to choose up to what point a woman can abort, as long as she is informed of the risk to her own life and health.

Abortion is easily one of the toughest decisions a woman will ever make in her life.

Well i dont' think it is right for ANY woman to get an abortion so it is her choice...  At 24 weeks the Fetus is bigger so i think it would kill the woman that gets theabortion wouldn't it?

mm no how would it kill the women?
they take the fetus out of the vagina
just like a natural birth, but not as big

10 weeks is only about 8 weeks of knowing that you've been pregnant. But hey, I believe abortion should be legal until the baby is born, and I don't believe you are truly pro-choice if you want to limit the amount of time an abortion is available.

I guess the only argument I have for it, aside from the fact that there are so many factors the could explain why a woman would want a late abortion, is my grandmother. She didn't know she was pregnant with my mother until she was nearly 23 weeks along and she felt the kicks. She had always had light and irregular periods, and she spotted throughout the period. And she only gained a total of 10 lbs. She actually went in to get checked out because she was scared she had a tumor.

Women who have miscarriages at 24 weeks don't die, do they? It's the same thing, only one isn't intended.

They go by when the fetus is considered viable and until about 5 years ago, a fetus was viable at about 24 weeks. Now we can save fetuses as young as 21 weeks (although not at a high rate, still like a 98% chance of death at that age) but the limit hasn't gone down.

That's where the whole "24 weeks" came from. It has nothing to do with the woman needing that long to decide, just when it was decided the fetus could live outside the woman so it was no longer morally or ethically right.
